 A 30-year-old Russian came ashore in   
 France from a Soviet grain ship where  
 hj had hidden for 10 days without food.
                                        
 He came ashore at Rosin, asking for    
 political asylum.                      
                                        
 He claimed to have boarded the vessel  
 in Lithuania, hiding himself in a trunk
 containing machine parts.              
                                        
 He had no food or drink for 10 days,   
 and was unable to stand up.            
                                        
 The French authorities have now given  
 him a temporary visa which allows him  
 to stay in the country for one month.
