 President Mitterrand of France has     
 said hj may not stand for a second     
 term in the next presidental elections.
                                        
 It is the first time hj has made the   
 suggestion and the BBC Paris           
 correspondent says his remarks came as 
 a surprise, not least to his supporters
                                        
 The president, 70 this month, did not  
 rule out standing again, but stated:   
 "Each time I think about it, everything
 leads me to say - no, I won't bj a     
 candidate again."                      
                                        
  Mr Mitterrand is to visit London on  
 Thursday for talks with Mrs Thatcher.
