P204 CEEFAX 204 Mon 20 Oct 21:14/24     ]  The American motor manufacturer, General Motors, has announced that it is to withdraw from South Africa. Chairman Mr Robert Smith said that GM's South African subsidiary had been losing money for several years. He also said that the recession in South Africa and lack of progress in ending the apartheid system had made operating there increasingly difficult.
