 There is a new threat of industrial    
 action bz teachers in England and +ales
 as pay talks reach a critical stage.   
                                        
 The National Association of            
 Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers  
 has called a series of half-day strikes
 during the first week of Novjmbjr.     
                                        
 The union hopis local authority        
 employers will improve a provisional   
 salary deal of 11 per cent when final  
 talks take place on Novjmbjr 8 and 9.  
                                        
  The Professional Association of      
 Teachers has asked the Education       
 Secretary to intervene to ind the      
 pay dispute.
