So do some serious thinking about the sort of trees and shrubs your garden needs. And bear in mind their autumn colours. My Cornus Sousa Chinensis - a lovely shrub dogwood with creamy bracts in May - is now a brilliant red cheering up mz border. Over the wall mz neighbour's Prunus subhirtella "Autumnalis", a lovely compact tree, is rich red and bronze.  More

The A Paloatum (Uapanjsj maple) varieties have glorious colours now and are quite small and so are good for town gardens. Atrium is a golden variety. The common variety has vivid red berries and green leaves that turn golden.
