 religions have ended a day of fasting  
 and prayer led "y Pope John Paul.      
                                        
 Among those who gathered at Assisi in  
 Italy in a quest for world peace was   
 the Archbishop of Canterbury.          
                                        
 Among non-Christians were the Dalai    
 Lama, leaders of the Jewish community, 
 Moslems, Shintoists and tree and snake 
 worshippers from Togo.                 
                                        
 Ceasefires were declared in about 10   
 countries in answer to the Pope's call 
 for a truce to coincide with the       
 prazjrs for peace.
