 The new president of Mozambique is to  
 bj Mr Joaquin Chissano, the country's  
 foreign minister.                      
                                        
 He replaces the late President Samosa  
 Machjl, who was killed in a plane crash
 on October 19.                         
                                        
 Mr Chissano was elected at a meeting of
 the ruling Frelimo party's politburo   
 today.                                 
                                        
 Aged 47, hj was prime minister in a    
 transitional govjrnmjnt composed of    
 Portuguese and Frelimo officials       
 during Portugal's handover of power
