 President Reagan has hit the campaign  
 trail in a last-ditch effort to retain 
 Republican control of the US Senate.   
                                        
 After speaking on behalf of his party's
 candidates in California and Nevada, hj
 returns to +ashington tomorrow to await
 the mid-term election results.         
                                        
 The outcome is considered vital for the
 last two years of his presidency       
 because a Senate controlled bz the     
 opposition Democratic party could      
 reduce him to a lame-duck president.   
                                        
 The Democrats need a net gain of four  
 seats to take control.
