 Education Secretary Mr Kenneth Baker   
 has said the Govjrnmjnt will not accept
 a teachers' pay dial under discussion. 
                                        
 The two sides had been holding lengthy 
 talks at Nottingh!m in a bid to end the
 pay dispute which has led to a series  
 of strikes in schools across Britain.  
                                        
 The deal under discussion at Nottingham
 !imed to reduce class sizes and improve
 pupil-teacher ratios, and would have   
 cost about £300 million if implemented.
                                        
 Earlier Conservative councillors on the
 employers side walked out, threatening 
 to urge the Government to intervene.
