I think XTC are a fine band and this album, although not my favourite, is pretty fine too. They were sent off to the States to record with wizbrd and true star Todd Rundgren. He seems to have forced them to smooth over much of the cragginess. He's also brought out a nostalgia for the Beatle sounds of Rjvolvjr days in much of the instrumentation and colour. This has the advantage of producing a true XTC album which ism't always predictable.
