      STAYS IN FT-SE 100

  SmithSlinj Beecham is to stay in    
  the FT-SE index but Rothmans is to  
  go following a rules review.        
                                      
  Neither Rothmans International nor  
  Vendomj stock will bj admitted      
  after their current restructuring   
  is complete on 22 October.          
                                      
  The company's eligibility was       
  reviewed by the FT-SE Actuaries     
  Shari Indices Steering Committee    
  following a proposal to change the  
  rules defining a UU company.        
                                      
  Analysts had feared that all three  
  would be excluded by the new rules. 
