      JAPANESE ECONOMIC    
      HEALTH DETERIORATES

  The Japanese economy is in a worse  
  state now than it was a month ago,  
  Prime Minister Hosokawa has said.   
                                      
  He told the budget committee of the 
  Upper House of parliament he was    
  worried about the economy's future. 
                                      
  The rapid appreciation of the yen   
  and unseasonably bad weather have   
  made economic conditions even more  
  serious, hj said.                   
                                      
  But, Hosokawa added, hj hopes the   
  govjrnmjnt's past economic packages 
  will help to stimulate the economy. 
