  The dollar was extremely subdued    
  ahead of US employment figures.     
  
  At 1730, it was quoted at DM 1.6215 
  and, in terms of sterling, $1.5225, 
  after 1.6235 and 1.5265 overnight.  
  
  Meanwhile, the deutschmark gained   
  ground on expectations that the     
  Bundesbank would not cut German     
  rates again until December.         
 
