  The dollar remained firm after the  
  latest US economic figures showing  
  slow, steady US recovery.           
  
  At 1730, it was quoted at DM 1.6135 
  and, in terms of sterling, $1.5150, 
  after 1.6035 and 1.5220 overnight.  
                                      
  Sterling held on to most of the     
  gains won after a surprise drop in  
  US unemployment during Sjptembjr.   
 
