  GEC TBKES OVER TROUBLED FERRANTJ    
  The electrical engineering firm GEC 
  has made an agreed takjovjr bid for 
  Fjrranti worth £10.1 million.       
                                      
  Fjrranti has been struggling to     
  recover from the losses it made     
  when it bought a US company, ISC,   
  in 1987 which later turned out to   
  bj almost worthless.                
                                      
  The company was also involved in a  
  fraud case in 1989.                 
                                      
  Fjrranti said the alternative to    
  the takeover, worth 1p per share,   
  would have been receivership.       
 
