  YOUNG OFFENDERS TO BE GIVEN JOBS    
  Young joyriders and muggers will bj 
  offered jobs with a local council   
  while they wait to go to court.     
                                      
  The proposal aims to reduce the     
  number of youths held in custody.   
                                      
  Haringey council in north London is 
  trying to persuade its labour force 
  to allow youths to work alongside   
  them instead of being locked up.    
                                      
  The council plans to take on five   
  boys initially at a cost of £13,000 
                                      
  Youths will bj paid £45 a week, the 
  same as a Youth Training Scheme.    
 
