This is known as bud blast, a fungal disease which is common, especially in S of England. Try spraying with Bordeaux Mixture just before flowering and every month throughout the summer. An insect called the leafhoppjr may also contribute to the problem. Try &5 spraying with Malathion to combat. Pondweed is an extremely nutritious &5 material for the compost heap. Planting out Orkney lupin: -his flower generally grows best in poor stony soil. Fred would pot it up into John Inner seed compost &5 with extra grit added. Keep it in the cold frame over the winter, trying to keep it free from &5 slugs. It is time to remove capillary matting from greenhouse benches to let dry air circulate around plants and help to prevent diseases such as botrytis. Wash matting in a good disinfectant, dry thoroughly and put away for next year. If temperature is high enough, lawn will continue to grow.
