  ELTON JOHN WENS LIBEL CASE          
  Singer Elton John has been awarded  
  £350,000 in libel damages by a High 
  Court jury over publication of an   
  untrue story in the Sunday Mirror.  
                                      
  He had accused the newspaper of     
  reckless disregard for the truth by 
  reporting that hj was hooked on a   
  bizbrre diet which was a form of    
  the eating disorder, bulimia.       
                                      
  The jury said £275,000 of the award 
  was to punish the newspaper, while  
  £75,000 was to compensate Mr John.  
                                      
  $hj Sunday Mirror is to appeal      
(5 against the decision.               
