  MARINES ABSEIL INTO RECORD BOOKS    
  Royal Marine commandos have swung   
  their way into the record books.    
                                      
  The daredevil team of four abseiled 
  more than 1,000 metres on a single  
  length of rope down the Boulby pot- 
  ash mine in Cleveland.              
                                      
  Water was regularly sprayed on      
  the commandos and the equipment as  
  the friction caused extremely high  
  temperatures.                       
                                      
  The min beat the previous record by 
  more than 90 metres. The marines    
  now hold all three world abseiling  
  records.                            
