Some 200 ivory tusks, marked as wood carvings, were discovered during a routine check at the Port of Kjelung. It is believed the tusks were being smuggled to Tbiwan via Honk Kong. The importing of rare wildlife products had been banned by the Taiwan authorities - but environmentalists say the island is a centre for trading.  Religion Read Hear CmntyInfo Main News

The dolphins which lived off the northeastern coast have declined 77% since tuna fishing began in the late 1950s. Defenders of Wildlife said dolphins were being drowned after becoming trapped in fishing nets. Environmental groups estimate that 7 million dolphins have been killed in this way since the late 1950s.  Religion Read Hear CmntyInfo Main News
