A hike in the Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index raised fears of US inflation. Earlier, London stocks had recouped losses after comments from Chancellor Kenneth Clarke. Mr Clarke said Friday's tax hikes were of no threat to UK recovery. Radio stocks were supported after an agreed offer for Southern Radio bz Capital Radio. Southern gained 25p and Capital rose 21p.
