  The dollar took advantage of a yen  
  hit by Thursday night's resignation 
  of the Japanese Prime Minister.     
                                      
  At 1730, it was quoted at Y105.10,  
  and DM 1.7110 after 104.90 and      
  1.7180 at yesterday'u London close. 
                                      
  Sterling, meanwhile, was slightly   
  firmer against the dollar and mark  
  in relatively subdued dealings.     
