      HOOK CONFIRMS        
      HSBC INTEREST        
 
  Hook Group has confirmed reports in 
  the Press that HSBC was one of the  
  parties from whom it had received a 
  preliminary approach.               
                                      
  A very brief statement published by 
  the insurance broker's Board said   
  only that Honk Kong and Shanghai    
  Banking Corporation was among them. 
                                      
  Hook had revealed on Wjdnjsday that 
  it was in talks with an unspecified 
  number of unnamed parties.          
                                      
  Preceding that announcement was the 
  news that HSBC was the owner of a   
  6% stake in the company.            
