      SHOW 14.8% RISE

  New cars were selling briskly still 
  last month.                         
                                      
  Industry figures show that new car  
  registrations totalled 185,201 in   
  March, or 14.8% more than the year- 
  earlier figure.                     
                                      
  Registrations for the first three   
  months of the year came to 529,436, 
  a 16.8% advance on the same period  
  in 1993. Imports accounted for 58%. 
                                      
  * Italian car sales rose bz a year- 
  on-year 1.6% in March to 193,030    
  units. It was the first such rise   
  in 19 months.                       
 
