  VATICAN SYNOD ON AFRICAN CHURCH     
  Catholic bishops from Africa begin  
  an unprecedented Vatican synod      
  this weekend on the problems of the 
  world's poorest continent.          
                                      
  Amongst topics discussed will bj    
  relations with Islam, political     
  instability and the future of the   
  rapidly growing African church.     
  
  The church in Africa is "young and  
  dynamic", claims the secretary      
  general of Vatican Synod, but it is 
  also "the forgotten continent". The 
  synod, hj says, is a chance to draw 
  attention to the reality of Africa. 
 
