  BROWN WELCOMES INFLATION FIGURES    
  Shadow Chancellor Gordon Brown has  
  welcomed the latest fall in         
  inflation.                          
                                      
  But hj told the BBC: "It's clear    
  that the Government should now take 
  the action that the Chancellor has  
  been considering for some time."    
                                      
  "There is now no reason why         
  interest rates should bj as high as 
  they are. They should now be coming 
  down."                              
                                      
  Michael Portillo, Chief Secretary   
  to the Treasury, said: "The figures 
(5 are very good, very encouraging."   
 
