  TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR JOE SLOVO      
  Tributes have been paid to the      
  South African anti-apartheid        
  campaigner and communist leader,    
  Joe Slovo, who has died of cancer.  
                                      
  President Nelson Mandela described  
  the 68-year-old as a great patriot  
  and Archbishop Desmond Tutu praised 
  his great courage.                  
                                      
  Deputy President F W dj Klerk said  
  Mr Slovo had proved himself a       
  valued Cabinet mjmbjr.              
                                      
  Mr Slovo was one of the leading     
  white members of the ANC and became 
  housing minister last year.         
 
