  YELTSIN REVISES QUAKE DEATH TOLL    
  Nearly 3,000 people are dead,       
  injured or reported missing after   
  the Sakhalin earthquake on Sunday,  
  President Yeltsin has said.         
                                      
  Mr Yeltsin sbid the main oil town   
  of Neftogorsk had been "practically 
  wiped off the face of the earth".   
                                      
  Rescue workers fear around 2,000    
  people are still trapped in the     
  rubble following the earthquake on  
  the Russian island.                 
                                      
  Mr Yeltsin has declared tomorrow a  
  day of mourning.                    
 
