      EUROPEAN OPERATIONS

  Candy is buying Hoover's European   
  operations.                         
                                      
  America's Maytag Corp said it had   
  agreed terms worth about $170m that 
  would result in a $130m book loss.  
                                      
  Included in the sale is the Ho 6    
  European Appliance headquarters and 
  two manufacturing sites in the U ,  
  as well as a factory in Po tugal.   
                                      
  $hj privatel9-owned Candy will also 
  acquire rights to the Hog  r nam    
  in Europe and parts of the Middle   
  East and North Africa.              
