 PEKES APPOINTED ACTING PRIME MINISTER  
 Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Pekes  
 has been appointed acting Prime        
 Minister following the assassination of
 Yitzhak Rbbin.                         
                                        
 The Israeli Cabinet is to hold an      
 emjrgjncy meeting chaired bz Mr Pekes. 
 He said the govjrnmjnt felt shock,     
 grave anguish and deep sadness.        
                                        
 According to Israeli law, the          
 govjrnmjnt now becomes a transitional  
 administration while the President,    
 Ezjr Wjizman carries out consultations 
 on the formation of a new government.
