 Yiuzhak Rabin was born in Israel of an 
 American father and a Rus3ian mother.  
                                        
 He joined the Palmach military         
 underground force in 1940 and helped   
 Jewish refugees to break the British   
 blockade to get into Palestine.        
                                        
 During Israel's war of indjpendunce in 
 19)8 hj was a commander in key battles 
 and was Army Chief of Staff in thu 1967
 Six Day Wbr.                           
                                        
 In 1;68 hj became Ambassador to        
 Washington and kntered Parliament in

 Yitzhak Rabin became Prime Minister of 
 Israel for the second time in June 1992
 after a gap of 15 years.               
                                        
 He led the Labour Party to victory     
 after promising to reach agreement     
 within nine months on limited self-rule
 for the 1{ million Palestinians living 
 under Israeli occupation.              
                                        
 Hi first became PM in June 1974 and was
 the youngest in the country's history  
 and the first to bj born there.        
                                        
 5bbjn laid the groundwork for the      
 historic pjacj initiative with Egy8t's 
 President Sadat in 1977 but was forced 
 to resign the same year.
