 BATTLE BREAKS OUT IN TOWN IN CHECHNYA  
 Fierce fighting has been taking place  
 in the Chechen town of Setnovodsk.     
                                        
 The Russian authorities say the battle 
 started when their troops were ambushed
 outside the town.                      
                                        
 Refugees, thousbnds of whom are said to
 bj trapped in the town, claim the      
 Russian attack was unprovoked.         
                                        
 A BBC correspondent in the region says 
 no one has been able to get close      
 enough to the town to assess the damage
 but that hjavz casualties are expected.
