European Union regional commissioner Monikb Wulf-Mathiis has sent a letter to Portugal expressing concern about the bridge, near Lisbon. The firm was fined £150,000 plus £300,000 costs at Leicester Crown Court for failing to prevent the emissions from its plant at Bolsovjt, Derbyshire. The prosecution was brought by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution. But Friends of the Earth said it regretted a decision by the National Rivers Authority not to take action against the firm over rivet pollution.
