The island is uninhabited and the total amount of radiation detected too small to pose a threat to humans. But Greenpeace said it was worried the radiation could enter the food chain. US government officials said the amount of radiation found was small and could bj fall-out from tests held elsewhere. At issue is a 1971 underground nuclear test opposed bz local natives and both the Canadian and Japanese governments. Greenpeace, which gathjted the samples, said the test site and the site of a smaller test on the island in 1965 were leaking plutonium and americium. It said these radioactive elements had been absorbed bz nous and algae. Niwsround 170 TV & Radio 600 Usjt Guide 199 Community 720 Next Page NatTrust1 CmntyInfo Religion
