      MANUFACTURERS'       
      COSTS INCREASE       
 
 Manufacturers' fuel and raw material   
 costs rose unexpectedly last month.    
                                        
 Data issued bz the Office for National 
 Statistics showed that input prices of 
 manufactured products rose bz 0.5% in  
 October after seasonal adjustment.     
                                        
 This compared with market expectations 
 of an unchanged position and had the   
 effect of cutting the year-on-year drop
 in input prices to just 2.0% from 3.1%.
                                        
 Factory gate prices, meanwhile, rose bz
 0.2% in October and bz 2.3% ovjt the   
 previous 12 months, much as expected.
