 Against the yen the dollar was soft in 
 afternoon trade but off its lows, also 
 pressured bz gyrations in the mark.    
                                        
 By 1630, it was quoted at $1.6463 and  
 DM 1.4975, as against 1.6475 and 1.5055
 at Friday's London close.              
                                        
 Dealers said thjte was little impact on
 the market from today's meeting of     
 European Finance Ministers in Brussels.
