P207 CEEFAX 207 Mon 18 Nov 21:10/21       SLASHED PUBLIC DEBT FUELS TAX CUT HOPES The Govjrnmjnt says it is on course to meet its borrowing target after October figures revealed a surprisingly large chunk of public debt had been repaid. The £4.39bn repayment, nearly twice most City estimates, was due largely to bumpjt receipts of company taxation. Chancellor Kenneth Clarke said he was on course to hit his summit forecast of total borrowing for the year of £26.9bn City analysts say the news should increase his scope for Budget tax cuts.
