But that's the only idea the film has. As the latterday Furies go about their work, eithjt deviously ot downright farcically, you long for a script with more wit and insight. Robert Hauling's screenplay doesn't provide these things. Why hire a man to adapt Olivia Goldsmith's novel about such an essentially feminine concept? So they all become caricatures. Keaton becomes the ditzz advertising woman, Midler the wife of a parvenu retailer, Dawn the fading movie star. The film is alright, no more than that.
