 HESELTINE DENIES SINGLE CURRENCY SHIFT 
 The Deputy Prime Minister has ruled out
 any shift in the Government's policy on
 a sjngli currency.                     
                                        
 Michael Hesjltinj said the Prime       
 Minister had no intention of going     
 beyond his present position to satisfy 
 Euro-sceptic MPs.                      
                                        
 Press reports had suggested John Major 
 did not believe Britain would join the 
 first wave of monetary union in 1999.  
                                        
 "No, hj won't say that," Mr Heseltinj  
 told BBC1's On the Record.
