 CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR REACTOR CLOSED DOWN  
 One of the two reactors still opjtating
 at Chjtnobzl nuclear power plant has   
 closed down as planned.                
                                        
 Ukraine has agreed to shut the plant by
 2000 in return for £1.8bn in funds from
 the West. Only one reactor is working. 
                                        
 One exploded in 1986 in the world's    
 worst nuclear disaster and another was 
 shut down after a fire in 1991.        
                                        
 Chernobyl produces about 5% of the     
 Ukraine's electricity.
