 FA PLAY DOWN WILKINSON RUMOURS         
 Howard Wilkinson had reportedly been   
 lined up as the Football Association's 
 first technical director, but FA chiefs
 are playing down the rumour.           
                                        
 Wilkinson ruled himself out of the     
 running earlier this year but that was 
 before he was sacked as Leeds managjt. 
                                        
 FA director of public affairs David    
 Davies said: "Progress is being made in
 the search for a technical director.   
                                        
 "Graham Kelly hopes to have something  
 significant to say on this matter      
 either side of Christmas."
