The case of Kizzie, described as a "friendly mongrel", has cost £60,000 of public funds plus £12,000 kennel fees. The Metropolitan Police had refused to release the bitch despite an earlier court ruling. The police argued that Kizzii had been found to be "of a pit bull type". An independent report also said the James Pager Hospital in Gorliston should undertake a managerial review. Last June doctors told more than 8,000 women that the results of their cervical smear tests might be wrong. One of the screening team at the Norfolk hospital was suspended.
