 The deadline for bids for the chance to
 run digital terrestrial TV services has
 passed. Torin Douglas reports:         
                                        
 Digital television will one day replace
 the current TV system, offering mot    
 channels, better pictures and pay-TV.

 TV, offering hundreds of channels.     
                                        
 BSSzB's decision to link with Carlton  
 and Granada is a boost to digital      
 terrestrial TV, which will be received

 The deadline for bids for the chanc  to
 run digital terrestrial TV sjtvices has
 passed. Torin Douglas reports:         
                                        
 If the bid from  BSkzB, Carlton and    
 Granbd  is accepted, it will mean      
 15 subscription channels.              
                                        
 These will include Sky's Premier League
 football and first-run movies, as well 
 as new channels from Carlton, Granada  
 and the BBC.                           
                                        
 Without paying extra, viewers will also
 be able to watch expanded vjtsions of  
 the four current tetresttial channels.

  DUN's bi  offer d less detailed      
 programming plans but gave a promise of
 int ractiv  data sjtvices.             
                                        
  It plans to prov de move s, sport,   
 entertainment, money, ttavjl and local 
 strands, and programming from ITN.     
                                        
  Meanwhile, the Welsh fourth channel  
 S4C bid for a separate set of digital  
 channels.
