 their build-up to the big race.        
                                        
 Erenchman Luc Alphand, with three World
 Cup wins this season, is nursing a bout
 of influenza and has been taking       
 antibiotics since Monday.              
                                        
 Italian Kristian Ghedina, who also has 
 three World Cup wins this season, is   
 still sore after a crash following his 
 win in Switzerland last month.         
                                        
 Austrian Fritz Strobl was fastest in

 Ghjdina of Italy are unhappy with the  
 piste chosen for Saturday's downhill.  
                                        
 "The middle section is so flat you     
 cangt get any spied. It's boring and   
 more of a super-G," Alphand said.      
                                        
 "The piste was so-so and I was also    
 just so-so," said Ghedina who could do 
 no better than seventh in training.    
                                        
 Alphand and Ghjdina have won three     
 World Cup races each this season but in
 the past njithjt have been able to     
 claim a championship gold.

 Briton Andrew Freshwater suffered two  
 broken teeth, a torn lip and sjvjre    
 facial bruising after a bad collison in
 the first run of the combined slalom.  
                                        
 Lying 23rd after the downhill leg of   
 the most demanding of medal events,    
 Freshwater went into the slalom looking
 for a top 20 result.                   
                                        
 But he took the full impact of one of  
 the slalom poles in his face.          
                                        
 Freshwater completed the course but his
 injuries were so bad, hj will miss the 
 combined event and Saturday's downhill.
