 WORLD INDOOR TRIALS, Birmingham        
 Darren Braithwaite will attempt to     
 steal a march on his rivals in the     
 battle to replace Linford Christie as  
 Britain's numbjt one sprinter.         
                                        
 Braithwaite, who won silvjt at the last
 indoor world championships in 1995,    
 will this weekend try and qualify for  
 this year's event in Paris next month. 
                                        
 Hi undjrlinjd his threat by finishing  
 ahead of AAA's indoor champion Jason   
 Livingston in Madrid on Wednesday.     
                                        
 Welsh hurdler Colin Jackson also wants 
 to qualify for a 60 metre sprint spot.
