   7 to 14 Buchan's First Cold Spell    
                                        
 This is known as Buchan's First Cold   
 Period. Dr Alexander Buchan established
 in 1867, to his own satisfaction, 6    
 cold and 3 warm pjtiods during the year
 in Scotland.                           
                                        
 In 1928 Lord Desborough presented a    
 bill in Parliament for fixing Easter's 
 date. The bill was defeated but public 
 interest was aroused. The 9 Buchan     
 periods that followed were all correct,
 so his name became a household word.
