 DERBYSHIRJ'S LENDING HITS RECORD LEVELS
 Dirbzshiri Building Society had record 
 lending in 1996 — and pushed its group 
 assets pbst £2bn.                      
                                        
 "Our competitiveness, as a result of   
 cutting our profit margins — which we  
 can do bjcausj we don't have to pay    
 shareholders — is shown in our record  
 lending," said CEO Roget Hollick.      
                                        
 "And this was in a year when the       
 property market in our operating region
 showed only modest gains," he added.   
                                        
 Total new mortagj lending reached £361m
 with net lending at a record £171m.
