 Impressive and gripping, THE CRUCIBLE  
 has been surpri ingly o6j loo ed b     
 the Oscar nominators. Miller has been  
 mom mated for his sct enplaz and Joan  
 Allen for Biut Supporting Actress.     
                                        
 But why not Day Lewis, or the supjtb   
 Paul Schofiild or +inona Rzdjr — wholly
 convincing as the cast-off miutteus?   
                                        
 Hytnjt's film is an admirable follow-up
 to The Madness of King George.         
                                        
 And it is a chilling reflection of the 
 fundamentalism, religious ot otherwise,
 which plagues us even today.
