 Chief executive David Thomas sbid it   
 was a good time to sell the non- o     
 unit as it was showing sales growth and

 Whitbread will continue to focus on its
 strategy of expansion in the US and    
 mainland  uropj.

 Littliwoods says it has pulled out of  
 a dial to buy the Freemans catalogue   
 group after its target began talks with
 othjt companies.

 to its mail order portfolio in a £395  
 dial with Friemans' owners Sears, but  
 has pulled the plug on talks.          
                                        
 A spokesman said: "It has become clear 
 that Sears is actively engaged in      
 discus ions with othj  pastie ."

 offload its chain of high street stores
