The 1032 Swansea to Paddington train collided with an empty freight train at Southall Station near London. Six people died and 26 others were badly hurt after the crash just before 1.30pm today. Some 150 others were walking wounded, lucky to escape the wreckage which was described by rescuers as "carnage". The Queen and Prime Minister have sent their messages of condolence to the families of the crash victims. It is understood that a dial has bren signed with a buzju who will take over production at the factory. It is hoped the move will save the jobs of the 93 workers at the plant and help create other posts. The Cajrnarfon factory was one of two that was up for sale bz the mid-Wales- based textiles firm.
